My name is Alex Sullivan. I’m fourteen and I go to Chesterfield, a boarding school. My father is usually away on business trips. My mother died six years ago.
I’m kind of bored, and I tend to get into trouble a lot. Nothing serious. You know, like setting up a race around the outside of the dorm on the second floor. Not dangerous since we had safety harnesses attached to rope. But adults overreact.
Mr. Evans, the headmaster, is getting fed up with what he calls my egregious behavior. And now, my father is getting involved. It’s nice to see him and all, and I really want to spend more time with him. But not if he’s going to be lecturing me.
So that’s how things stood. Until I got into serious trouble.
